Say it ain’t always a hoot. Say she’s misophonic and you’re a mouth breather. Say she’s supersonic and you’re a slow reader. Say she pulls her car seat up way too close to the wheel, and all you can think about is how the airbag might eat her. Say she is a careful driver, because she insists that you say it. Say her feet are always cold, and you’re a shifty heater. Say she doesn’t do the dishes right away and you oversalt most things most days. Say she can be hard-headed, at times even mean; she’s still the sweetest thing you’ve ever seen.

Say she forgot to download the file on the night of her big deadline, and you’d already made her tea when she ran out the door. Say you rushed after her and nearly burned your hands. Say all the air in the room has been used up by her sighing, for her dreams are on the line and you can’t watch. Say her happiness and yours and your parents’ is in the end absolutely certain.

Say it’s been four years but you hope it’s forever.
